Labor Union Lobby Effort

Choose a Labor Union, research it, judge the effectiveness of its lobbying efforts compared to its competition.

What is a national Labor Union (for the purposes of this class)?

Any group that uses the power of collective bargaining to achieve its goals and lobbies the Fedral government on issues that matter to them.

Many call themselves "a Labor Union." A few examples:

AFL/CIO, The Teamsters, SEIU, SAG and of all types of workers:

factory garment workers, Agro-workers, Steel workers, Coal Miners, Grocery store clerks, Public sector (government workers), private industry unions

But don't forget... any orgainzation that represents members of a profession using collective bargaining. They call themselves "Associations, or "Guilds" or others non-labor sounding names. A few examples:

AMA (Medical Doctors), ABA (Lawyers), Dentists, Accountants, Nurses, Teachers, Police, Fire Fighters, Hazmat, etc., all have professional organizations even if they don't call them unions...

ALL Unions have people and organizations (mostly corporations) that oppose them or what they do... judge the union by its completion. Are they better or worse than the completion at getting their message out and getting what they want out of the federal government?
