Mt. Moriah

(Deadwood's "Boot Hill " Cemetery)

All "Old West" cemeteries were called"boot hill" because they were all "buried with their boots on." The first cemetery was too low on the hillside and had to be moved. All the graves and original stones were moved up the hill.

Wild Bill Hickok is buried near Calmity Jane.

The potters field was below the main cemetery on thehillside. They can't even cut the lawn because people were buried so shallow. Just last year a body rolled down the hill and dna showed he was Chinese or Native American, so they had a serivice using priests from both and reburied the remains.

The US flag over the cemetery never is taken down. A little strange because Deadwood came to be because the US did not enforce the treaty of Laramie
