Today, there is a research lab inside the old mine.

The mine was closed in the early nineties because the price of gold fell. The federal government forced the company to clean it up and remove all the equipment. So now that the price of gold is up again, it may be worth mining some more, oh but that damn federal government and those regulations about saftey and the environment...

Blame regulation...

Because mining is always about leaving a small footprint and the love of mother nature.
